I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to be able to say I'm truly marrying my best friend. When Chris and I met almost 3 years ago, I instantly got a good feeling about him. It turns out, he's the sweetest, funniest, most loving person I've ever met. In Susie language, he's fabulous!
For those of you who don't know me yet, I'm a life-long Bostonian and freelance writer who loves being in the kitchen. When I'm not blogging about all things food and lifestyle, I can be found trying to get Chris to try new foods (he's an awesome sport); enjoying my parents' incredible cooking; hanging out with my favorite neighbors, Beth and Adam; and gallivanting around the city (and suburbs) with my friends. I also love cupcakes, books, grammar, and glitter.
I can't wait for June 9, 2012, so I can see all of you! And also, so I can marry my best friend and continue to see where our lives take us. Together.
Never in a million years would I have thought that I would pack up my things and move up north to Boston. I figured it would be an adventure and that after a year or so I would move back home to Virginia. Turns out, though, I met an amazing woman who I cannot wait to marry and begin a life with. So Boston has become my new home and I am having so much fun.
So, for those of you who don't know me yet here's a little bit about myself. When it comes to food I am a sucker for spicy foods and Susie has become quite the expert at creating the best, most spicy, delicious, meals and drinks. For some reason my friends and family think I have an obsession with Apple products. Not sure where they got that idea from I only have a MacBook Air, iPad, iPhone, and AppleTV. Dad says that if Apple slapped their logo on a trash can I'd buy it. He's probably right. Aside from technology I love going to Patriots and Celtics games. Recently I picked up golf and Susie has decided to join me which is pretty awesome. Another hobby of mine is exploring the world of craft beer. Susie and I often take road trips to tour our favorite craft breweries.
Not sure where the road ahead leads but I can't wait to explore every bit of it with Susie by my side.
On December 22, 2008, we both headed to Grafton Street in Harvard Square for a Boston blogging meet-up. We started chatting and immediately hit it off, so we decided to hang out when Chris returned to Boston after spending the holidays in Virginia. We did... And the rest is history!
Why are we perfect for each other? We both agree that the best way to spend Friday night involves cocktails and watching Dateline on the couch. Susie has learned to cook food at the highest spice levels to accommodate Chris's tastes. Chris indulges Susie when she wants to watch the Bachelor (and Bachelorette and Bachelor Pad) and Susie indulges Chris when he wants to watch the Celtics. Chris has successfully converted Susie (and her entire family) to using Apple products. We both agree that the ideal summer afternoon is spent on the deck of Barnacle Billy's eating lobster and lobster rolls and drinking rum punch. Susie has a blog and Chris is a blog-fixing expert (I know he's actually a software engineer, but I prefer blog-fixing expert). Chris loves beer and Susie is more than happy to spend an afternoon beer tasting with him. And most importantly, we both love each other more than anything in the world!
On our second anniversary, we returned to where we met, Grafton Street, for a celebratory dinner. We had a really nice dinner that involved one of our very favorite things, a cheese plate, as well as lobster mac and cheese. We were trying to decide what to get for dessert and I could tell Chris's head was somewhere else. He wouldn't answer me as to whether or not he wanted the raspberry cheesecake. When I finally looked up to see why he wasn't answering, he was looking at his phone! Right at that moment, my phone started vibrating non-stop, so I went to look at it and see what was going on. But when he saw me going for my phone, he started talking right away and immediately took out a ring and asked me to marry him. Why was he on his phone? Well, he had just sent this message out on Twitter:
Right when he sent it, people started tweeting to me (which is why my phone was vibrating) and he didn't want me to pick up my phone and see before he actually got to ask me. If you're not on Twitter, this probably sounds like the geekiest engagement ever. But it was very us :)
The super sweet couple at the table next to us bought us a bottle of champagne and people kept coming over to our table and congratulating us. It was an absolutely incredible evening and neither of us could stop smiling. And after calling our family, we realized we still had to take to Twitter to answer the question, "did she say yes??" Of course I did!
